Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director of Risk Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety and risk management programs to protect the company's assets, employees, and reputation. This role ensures compliance with internal policies, state and federal regulations, and manages all aspects of insurance, litigation, and employee-related risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development & Compliance:
    • Design and enforce safety and risk management policies.
    • Ensure compliance with company standards and all applicable state and federal regulations.
    • Lead on-the-job training programs to promote a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Risk Reduction & Performance Improvement:
    • Achieve measurable reductions in accident rates, severity, DOT scores, and insurance premiums.
    • Continuously monitor and improve safety metrics and risk indicators.
  • Government & Regulatory Oversight:
    • Serve as the primary liaison for all government compliance matters.
    • Manage interactions with regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
  • Insurance & Claims Management:
    • Oversee all insurance policies, including annual renewals and coverage evaluations.
    • Manage claims reporting and resolution processes to minimize financial exposure.
  • Litigation & Legal Oversight:
    • Lead investigations and manage contract disputes and litigation from inception to resolution.
    • Assign and oversee external legal counsel as needed.
  • Liability & Exposure Management:
    • Evaluate and mitigate potential liability risks across operations.
    • Provide strategic guidance on risk exposure and prevention.
  • Driver & Employee Management:
    • Oversee hiring, orientation, training, and performance reviews for 80+ drivers.
    • Administer annual compensation reviews and raise processes.
  • Benefits Administration:
    • Serve as 401(k) plan administrator.
    • Manage health insurance implementation, renewals, and ongoing administration.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in risk management, safety compliance, and insurance administration.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and federal/state compliance standards.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing legal counsel and litigation processes.
  • Familiarity with employee benefits and HR practices.
