Duties Description Primary responsibility will be to coordinate and deliver the regional endangered species and diversity programs. Incumbent will work with private and public landowners and other government agencies to inventory, manage and protect listed and rare species. Duties will be accomplished through survey work, permit review, and coordination of protection strategies with landowners and other resource agencies. Incumbent would be responsible for assessing impacts of proposed projects to listed species and providing technical guidance on projects to maximize wildlife benefits and minimize impacts to wildlife resources.
The incumbent in this position will represent the Region at state and interstate meetings. They will also be responsible for responding to information requests and providing technical guidance regarding listed and rare species. The position will require participation in outreach programs involving groups, organizations and agencies. The incumbent in this position will also be responsible for purchasing and maintaining equipment and supplies as needed for the program. Preparation and submission of routine administrative forms such as timecards, travel forms, monthly and annual reports will also be required. Program Support - assist other Regional Biologists in the implementation of the Waterfowl, Deer, Access, Nuisance Wildlife, Upland Game Bird, Furbearer, Pathology, and Sportsmen Education Programs. Must be able to: organize, lead and present at internal, inter-agency and public meetings; read, evaluate and write complex technical and scientific documents and permits; work independently and organize own thoughts clearly in writing and orally; and conduct field tasks that require strength and agility under potentially hazardous or harsh environmental conditions. Candidates must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
